The Girls Who Got Away

"LISA WENT TO MONTREAL FOR ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE... SHE NEVER DREAMED SHE WOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH A WOMAN!"
Published in 1969 by California's Brandon House, easily the finest American publisher of erotica, for some time I've had an eye out for this title. Last month a Toronto bookseller teased, then disappointed. Here's hoping for success in 2010.

I'm too young to remember the American pavilion, depicted on the cover. That said, I see no evidence that any of its displays featured a bed... or lesbian sex, for that matter.

  1. The psuedonym used by the author makes me think of the 'PornSec' Tijuana Bible from Big-Brother-dominated England in the Black Dossier volume of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I hope that statement makes some kind of sense.

  2. JRSM, I'm embarrassed - and, really, I think I should be - in that I had no idea what you were writing about. A bit of research and I do now. Having caught just a few minutes of the movie on a flight, I've never been much interested in the League, but this looks like it's right up my alley. My thanks for pointing it out.

  3. PLEASE do not judge the comics from the movie!

  4. I hang my head in shame. After The Cat in the Hat I should know better.

  5. This one I have to find - terrific title, cover art and author pseudonym (Winston Smith?!)- and takes place in Montreal. I was at Expo'67 and and more than old enough to remember the US pavilion and the rest. Fun film.
If I come across the book I'll let you know.

  6. It almost seems to good to be true... though there's enough evidence out there that indicates it does exist. I first learned of it when doing research on John Glassco's pseudonymous The Temple of Pederasty - banned in Canada! - which was published by Hanover House, sister to Bandon House.

I expect that film was shot at about the time the fair opened in April... everything looks a bit damp and leafless.

    1. Thanks, Anon. I may just splurge. The publisher's motto, "Porn for the literate", does flatter.
